War Is Hell
Our soldiers are taught to push their emotions down and never talk about them or the problems they have after war started to affect them and their families.
It changes people to the point where they are never the same because of the things they have seen;"It struck me at the time, the thought of the women and children down there. We seemed to fly for hours over a sheet of fire - a terrific red glow with thin haze over it. I found myself making comments to the crew: "Oh God, those poor people." It was completely uncalled for. You can't justify it."(spartacus.school.co.uk)The truth is, war is hell for everyone who has been in one. Wounds heal but turn into scars that still hurt and are still noticeable.
Even though soldiers face the devastating weapons being used upon them in war, the destruction soldier's cause with the weapons also stays with them after they use the weapons. "The air becomes acid with smoke of the guns in the fog. The fumes of the powder taste bitter on the tongue the roar of the gun lorry stagger, vibration rolls raging away from the rear, everything quakes." (Erich Maria, 52)These weapons that army's use aren't only destructive but are bad for the soldiers that use them. Shooting these weapons and killing people effect's soldiers tremendously. The mental state after soldiers realize what they did, when they go home, is to react to something that triggers a memory from when they served. War must be hell for them and eventually they need help.
War is so traumatic that it stays with soldiers for the rest of their lives. "Then he realized that war was not what he thought and it was never going to leave him" this was said by the main character in the book All Quite On The Western Front. It is about German soldiers and what they go through. All these soldiers are never the same after their encounters in war because of the devastation in war. My uncle has done five tours over seas and he has severe PTSD. He says that he has flash backs after he sees something that reminds him of when he was fighting. He has to sleep for a long time and has anxiety attacks.
The truth of war is.... war is hell for everyone. The things that soldiers see and experience effects them and their families. Whether a person has PTSD or they are handicapped, their lives are never the same. I believe in fighting for something you believe in but not for no reason. To go through what our soldier's do is just devastating and nothing prepares them for it. War Is Hell!
